Lot 308

COYS AUCTION : Autosport
Saturday 16th Jnauary 2010 at

The NEC,
Birmingham.

Registration Number: EU Taxes paid Chassis Number: 2292077042
At around the same time as German Beetle production ceased, manufacture of the bay window Type-2 vans was also coming to an end in 1978-79. Volkswagen decided to mark the demise of the T2 with a commemorative model and a batch of 600 were built with a distinctive specification. Just like the Last Edition Beetles, these vans were painted metallic silver, and the edition Type 2 was known in Germany as the ‘Silberfisch’ (hence the anglicised name of ‘Silverfish’) or the Last Edition Bus. Very few of these last edition buses have survived – it is believed that only 8 are known to exist. The ‘Silverfish’ had a decidedly above-average equipment specification, featuring a padded dash, extra headlights, fog lights, air horns, stereo speakers and a unique sliding sun roof.

Manufactured on the 11th January 1979 this left hand drive example is described as being in excellent original condition throughout and is finished in marine upholstery in the cab and yellow check in the rear as with all examples. The work surfaces and rear living area are all in superb condition and make this extremely collectible as well as extremely useable. The bus is supplied with a V5 document, current MoT valid until December 2010 and a Volkswagon Birth Certificate. An excellent opportunity to purchase an extremely rare limited edition bus that is perhaps the best condition example of its kind.

Estimate: £17000 - £20000

This one is on flea bay with more pics advertising the auction. Looks tidy but I wouldn't be interested, seems like the sort of car / van that people would be scared of using rather than getting enjoyment out of it by driving it. Now if I won the lottery, buying it and wrapping it up while having a good 'un for a daily is a different matter!!!!

They never came with Westfalia Helsinki interiors!!!

I used to walk past a RHD Silverfish on my way to school. Looked so luxurious. I'm sure this is one that l saw at Breeze last year written up like an American Airlines minibus.
